Heliotropium indicum
Botanical Name:-Heliotropium indicum
Common Name :- Indian heliotrope, Indian turnsole
It is an annual plant that is a common weed in waste places and settled areas. It is native to Asia. It is widely used in native medicine in Tamil Nadu, India.
Features:-
1) It grows wildly on roadsides and has a curved arrangement of small flowers and velvety broad green leaves
2) The plant that can grow to a height of about 15–50 cm. has a hairy stem, bearing alternating ovate to oblong-ovate leaves.
3) It has small white or purple flowers with a green calyx, five stamens borne on a corolla tube; a terminal style; and a four-lobed ovary.
Medicinal uses:
1)The plant has been widely used for centuries to treat warts, inflammations and tumours.
2) It is use to treat numerous skin problems including yaws, urticaria, scabies, ulcers, eczema and impetigo.
3) The fresh juice of the leaves, in drops is helpful for conjunctivitis. The infusion of the plant is recommended for coughs and asthma
